2021 Christmas Party

Because of Covid lock downs and other constraints, the LRC Christmas Party, normally held in November, was shifted to December.  Similarly, the committee agreed to move the December Ordinary meeting to the same day as the Christmas Party, thus giving members genuine value for money.

The 2021 LRC Christmas Party was held on 11 December 2021 at Majors Creek with about 70 members, guests and children attending.  A number of members arrived the day before and were treated to some bleak weather and very damp campsites which meant that the choice of sites was a little limited, but we all managed to fit in along with those arriving on the Saturday. Celebrations kicked off with a pub meal on Friday evening.

A Wet Weekend

Passions in the Park, etc.

On Saturday, we awoke to a better day, and a few members took the opportunity to visit Braidwood to check out the local bakeries and coffee shops or jump on their treadlies to take in the scenery.  In conjunction with the Christmas Party, Peter Mercer, with the assistance of others I’m sure, arranged a Passions in the Park get together for members and non-members alike to bring along and display their old and unusual motor vehicles.  This event was well-attended and certainly presented the LRC in very good light with a number of visitors interested in following up on membership.

December Ordinary Meeting

By early afternoon, all camps were pitched and a few day-trippers had arrived to attend the meeting and/or join the party.   The ordinary meeting kicked off at 3pm and in the president’s style, kept as brief as possible so that the party could begin (don’t forget to check the website for meeting minutes to make sure you didn’t miss anything of great import).

Santa’s Visit

At 4pm, Santa arrived in a fine example of a Series 2A and he was greeted warmly by children and adults alike.  Again, and pleasingly, there was a good turnout of children and I suspect more would have made it had the weather not been so unpredictable. Maybe 2022 will be better.

Xmas Dinner

This year’s dinner was catered by Vanilla Catering whose team came out from Braidwood and ensured no one went hungry. The food was well-prepared and there was plenty of it.

The Christmas Party has always been a highlight of the year and this year was no exception.

Many thanks to:

  • Our social secretary, Gemma Zeitlhofer, who had to not only arrange the event, but become expert on Covid plans and compliance;
  • Eric Rigter who pulled off the role of Santa with such considerable aplomb and authenticity that he may well have lashed himself up for the gig for a few years yet;
  • And of course, the members who came along and contributed to make it a very successful weekend, especially those that travelled from some distance (Kandos, Sydney, Bega ….).
