  • Missing due to flat battery – Don Howard (another prospective member)

From Bega

  • Graeme Williams with Charlie Buckle (Perentie)

It was a perfect day for a drive to Cooma.  The five who drove down from Canberra (Mary, John, David, Margo and Robert) used the Colinton Rest Area as their meeting point.  They enjoyed a cuppa and chat (as you do) before heading off, arriving in Cooma just gone 11 am and were soon joined by the Bega contingent (Graeme, Charlie, Chris and Bob).

Graeme and Charlie took in a quick visit to the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre while Chris and Bob stopped for a coffee at Nimmitabel before continuing on to Cooma to meet the rest of the group.

The Car Museum was quite spectacular with lots of interesting cars and motorbikes. The presentation of the museum was brilliant with a re-creation of an old kerbside garage and petrol station at one end and a 1950’s themed café at the other end. For our group, coffee and donuts were provided at no charge, so we may have indulged more than we should have. There are also a lot of old photos of the Cooma are throughout the museum.

After a thorough inspection of the vehicles we then proceeded upstairs to the dining room and bar for lunch.

All good things come to an end and after lunch we headed off on our separate ways

The Canberra contingent returned home via Shannon’s Flat and the Bobeyan Rd.  There were several rough patches between Shannon’s Flat and the entrance to the park but otherwise it was an easy drive home.  Distressing, though, to see the amount of damage caused by the 2020 fires.

The Bega group headed home along the highway dreaming of tackling the dirt and mud again on a future trip.

The visit to the museum was well worth the trip and a very nice way to spend the day.
