BLC – Café Woodworks Bungendore and Captains Flat Heritage Trail – 13 August 2017

The day kicked off with those travelling from Queanbeyan to Bungendore meeting in the carpark at Spotlight in Queanbeyan at around 9am, with the remainder joining the convoy along the way or meeting in Bungendore.

In all, there were 20 eager breakfasters who enjoyed the very generous portions served at the café.

Around 11am, the five vehicles for the Heritage Trail tour departed Bungendore via Hoskinstown, Briars Sharrow and Captains Flat Rds to Captains Flat. The trail was great for the history buffs with many photo opportunities and the mine lookout provided some excellent views over Captains Flat.

We stopped in Captains Flat village, with some opting for refreshments at the hotel and others being invited in for a chat with Gunter and Christine at the now for sale Outsider Coffee Lounge & Gallery. Gunter is quite a character with a rich mix of heritage and culture. Both Christine and Gunter are very friendly and interesting people and will be sadly missed when they finally sell their property.

After seeing a few more of the historical buildings in Captains Flat, the group broke up and went their separate ways.

It was interesting to note that many of the buildings still owned by NSW State Government have now been leased out as private residences.

Gladly, the slight chance of rain never occurred, with the day being almost as good as it can get for winter time.

Comments from trip participants: “Venue was great and their service as very professional – orders came out quickly and without fuss” – Peter

Thank you to everyone for your participation.
