BLC Cooma – 21 February 2021
by Mary Bergstrom
After a chaotic early morning start for me but not early enough… I was last to arrive at the Williamsdale meeting place at the lay-by opposite the solar farm. So I write the trip report.
The weekend before, Russell checked out the planned route to Cooma and found we would not be in Cooma by 9.30am so decided we should head down on the blacktop. 10 cars – 5 Prados, 2 Discos, a Mazda, my Pajero and an Amorok owned by potential new members – drove out in convoy at 8.35am following our leader, the Very Ordinary Unsociable Secretary. Some of the vehicles were towing camper trailers as they were continuing onto Long Plain for Margaret’s hut maintenance trip.
Always an enjoyable drive to Cooma but this time it was green and lush. We arrived at 9.30 am for breakfast at the 123 Coffee House on the main street. Our very trip leader cleverly surprised us by arranging an interesting market in the park next door. After enjoying a very good breakfast and having a chat we had time to wander the market which comprised an eclectic array of stalls and highlighted by a local dog parade.
Around midday 5 cars headed back to Canberra along Boboyan Road led by Eric and Paulette whilst the other 5 cars headed off at their own pace to Long Plain Hut.
