So a happy and hungry band of 13 met under umbrellas at the Spotlight/Supercheap car park in Queanbeyan, ready for an 8am departure to Braidwood.
We all gathered around as Russell announced the trip plans for the day, out on the black top to Braidwood ready for a 9am breakfast. Then for the big decision of which way to come home, the original proposal of taking some of the Tallaganda fire trails sounded interesting on paper leading up to the trip, however once the rain set in alas it was not to be! We will have to leave that for another trip.
The trip out was uneventful, apart from the ever increasing rain as we closed in on our destination of the Albion Café in Braidwood. Traffic on the Kings Highway was quite light with probably more vehicles heading to the ACT than away (was this a sign?).
There was ample parking available in the main street, as if we were expected. So we dodged the puddles and made our way to the Albion where we were seated and checked in for covid.
The Autumn menu selection offered some delicious choices and the service was friendly and relatively quick considering the popularity of the venue. Nice choice Russell. Thumbs up. First coffees, breakfast ordered and then let the lies begin.
The return trip was vice versa of the trip out, but not as a convoy. Essentially the trip finished at the end of breakfast with participants choosing to go shopping, travel straight home or go and have a look at the Shoalhaven. For those stopping at Warri Bridge rest area it was a worthwhile stop for photos and a look at the very angry river (anyone for white river rafting?). It will be interesting to see if there is any of the beach sand left at this site once this event is over. (Postscript – a photo shared by Peter Mercer later in the week showed that there was no walking under the bridge option!)
The traffic on the way home was noticeably heavier, but mostly absent of the poor driving behaviour often observed on the Kings. Ann and I took a detour via Tarago for a change of scenery. Arriving home safely around 12:30.
Many thanks again to Russell for organising this trip allowing a catch up with good friends.
