This event was organised by the Land Rover Owners Club of Australia (Sydney) and held on private property (Paxina) near Capertee NSW.
This report will be a little different as there were two ACT club members who left from Bega (myself and Graeme) and we both went in different directions on different days, so in both cases it was a convey of one. Ralph and Mervyn also made their way independently from different locations.
I left Bega around 10.00 on Friday morning, a little later than I should have, and proceeded through Cooma, Canberra, Goulburn, Oberon, Portland and Cullen Bullen, with a few stops here and there for fuel and food, before arriving at Capertee Township around 6.00pm. I then proceeded out to the property arriving about 6.30 pm after a close encounter with a kangaroo which decided to jump out in front of me and continue in the same direction with his tail pretty much under the bull bar for a while as I leaned hard on the brakes. It eventually veered off back into the bush and we both escaped unscathed but with raised heart rates.

I was the last to arrive at the bush camp site. There were quite a few members from the Sydney club there with a wide range of vehicles from Series 1, 2 and 3, Defenders, Discoveries and Range Rovers.
After setting up camp and having tea, we joined the large gathering around the fire for drinks and then it began to rain which brought proceedings to an early close.
On the Saturday quite a long convey of vehicles set off on a good trip along some interesting local roads and through some nice country. We encountered one steep slope which was extremely slippery from the recent rain and required a great deal of caution. It took some time for each of the vehicles to negotiate it. With all vehicles through, we proceeded to our lunch stop beside a very nice creek. We then returned to the Paxina property via Capertee in time for afternoon tea.
On Sunday morning there was a tour of the Glen Davis shale mine site where shale was used to produce petrol. I needed to leave on Sunday morning so couldn’t join the tour. However it looks to be a very interesting historical site, so I hope everyone enjoyed that.

For a change of scenery, I returned home via Bathurst and Crookwell before joining the Federal Highway at Goulburn and continuing on to Bega through Queanbeyan and Cooma.
All up I covered around 1200 kilometres over the weekend and needed a good shower, a beer and a comfortable chair on arriving home Sunday night.
All in all, a great weekend and many thanks to the Sydney Club for organising and the Suttcliffes for hosting the event on their beautiful property.
